President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden visited Uvalde, Texas, Sunday to offer comfort and support to the victims of the Robb Elementary School shooting that killed 19 children and two adults.
The couple laid flowers and paid their respects at a memorial set up at the front of the school before attending the mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The President’s visit comes amid the public’s intense criticism of the officials’ response to the shooting.
DOJ to investigate officials’ response to Uvalde shooting
The Justice Department will conduct an in-depth investigation of the police officials’ response to the mass school shooting.
After receiving criticism for the law enforcement’s delayed response, Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin has requested the DOJ to review the situation and report their findings.
Department spokesperson Anthony Coley said, “This assessment will be fair, transparent and independent."
