Dr Jill Biden, First Lady of the United States, met her Ukrainian counterpart Olena Zelenska on a surprise visit to Ukraine on Mother’s Day.

The First Ladies met at a school in Uzhhorod, a border city in Western Ukraine. It was Zelenska’s first public appearance after Russia's invasion on February 24th.

Zelenska showed gratitude and said, “We appreciate your love and support on this special day.”

Canada and its unbridled support

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, too, made an announced visit to Ukraine showing Canada’s strong support for the war-torn country. Following the US announcement on Sunday, Canada also imposed sanctions against Russia, showing their support for the Ukrainian people.

During his visit to Kyiv, Trudeau offered military support with drone cameras, satellite imagery, small arms, and funds for demining operations. The country plans to provide $25 million for food security to the World Food Program.
