36 years after the first film, Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters as Memorial Day Weekend’s biggest release. 

The Tom Cruise starrer might become the actor’s first-ever $100 million domestic opening, as box-office analysts forecast an opening between $98 to $125 million. 

The 1986 Top Gun was a commercial hit, grossing over $357 million at the global box office.

The initial reviews praised Tom Cruise’s performance, saying it was exciting and nostalgic to see Cruise back on screen as Maverick Mitchell. The sequel hits theaters with a 97% “Fresh” rating from Rotten Tomatoes.
