Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau evoked the Emergencies Act, in an effort to counter anti-vaccine protests and control “terrorist financing” through crowdfunding and cryptocurrency. The Act allows banks to freeze personal accounts and suspended protestors’ vehicle insurance sans a court order. Trudeau is only the second Canadian leader to invoke the Act, the last being his father, who declared a state of emergency five decades ago. ”This is about keeping Canadians safe and protecting people’s jobs,” said Trudeau.
