Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ordered the removal of emergency powers from police following the conclusion of border blockades and the siege of Ottawa conducted by truckers and others opposed to COVID-19 restrictions. Trudeau added that while the "threat continues", the acute situation, which included the entrenched occupation of certain areas, has passed.
The Trudeau administration had invoked the Emergencies Act last week, with the Canadian parliament confirming it late on Monday. The emergency statute empowers authorities to designate specific regions as being off-limits. Additionally, it enables authorities to seize drivers' personal and business bank accounts.

During the border blockade, tow truck firms were asked to remove vehicles that were causing a hindrance to day-to-day activities.
