The United Nations Security Council will vote on a resolution Thursday on a US push to reinforce sanctions on North Korea as the country renewed its ballistic missile launches.

The vote comes after Pyongyang fired three missiles off its east coast, including one thought to be its largest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The incident took place after President Joe Biden visited Asia.

A US official said the Security Council Resolution 2397 would “further restrict North Korea's ability to advance its unlawful WMD (weapons of mass destruction) and ballistic missile programs, it would streamline sanctions implementation and further facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.”

China, which has veto power in the UN council, said that the draft resolution would not solve any problems.
