The US and South Korean militaries Monday launched eight ballistic missiles into the sea in a joint exercise—competing with North Korea’s ballistic launches that occurred the previous day.
The firing exercise included missiles from eight Army Tactical Missile Systems—one American and seven South Korean.
The South Korean military said the demonstration aimed to prove the country’s ability to respond swiftly and accurately to its Northern counterpart’s attacks.
A display of power
South Korea’s missile display came after the North’s demonstration on Sunday of firing eight short-range missiles for over 35 minutes from at least four different locations.
North Korea’s missile display comes after the US's three-day drill of the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan with South Korea as the countries plan to enhance their defense exercises following North Korea’s threats.
