The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration dispatched a crash investigation team to probe the Tesla crash in Newport Beach that killed three.  

The team will investigate the 2022 Tesla Model S Sedan involved in the May 12 crash. It will try to determine if the car was on a partially automated driving system.

The May 12 Tesla crash is the recent accident taken up by the NHTSA to investigate the advanced driver assistance systems. 

The agency is currently investigating over 34 cases, in which 14 people died and at least 15 were injured.

The May 12 crash
Newport Beach police found a crashed 2022 Tesla Model S Sedan that had hit construction equipment along the Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach. The crash killed the three people inside the car and injured three construction workers.

What’s next?
The agency is investigating an investigation to determine whether Tesla is violating any regulation related to its Full Self-Driving systems.
