Over 3.6 million babies were born in 2021, a 1% increase from previous year’s level, marking the first increase since 2014, per the latest CDC data.
According to the CDC report, births in the country had been declining by an average of 2% every year since 2014 and plunged to 4% from 2019 to 2020.
But…
Even after the increase in the birth rate, the number of births remains below the replacement level—the number needed to keep the population the same from generation to generation.
