Mohammed Ahmad al-Qahtani, 46, a Saudi prisoner at the Guantanamo Bay detention center, suspected of trying to join the 9/11 hijackers, was released from the detention facility after 20 years and sent back to Saudi Arabia for mental health care.
Al-Qahtani has suffered from mental illness, including schizophrenia, since childhood, according to the medical records provided by his lawyers.
He is the second Bay prisoner released under president Biden's administration. Currently, there are 38 prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba.
