Washington became the first state to implement earnings standards for Uber and Lyft drivers when Governor Jay Inslee signed a minimum pay standard law for ride-hail companies.

The benefits of the law

With the new minimum pay standard law, drivers will be paid for sick time, family medical leave and long-term care programs, and will be eligible for workers' compensation.

The drivers will also have the liberty to appeal if they want to be removed from the apps.

Seattle and New York were the only cities to have implemented minimum pay for drivers before introducing the law.
