Yelp becomes one of the latest US companies to provide travel benefits for its workers and dependents who travel to access abortion.
Starting next month, the crowd-sourced platform would cover the travel expenses spent by its employees who had to travel to get a legal abortion.
Why it matters?
Several states—with Oklahoma being the recent one—are passing bills to ban abortion, making the treatment expensive and much less accessible.
Over 200 employees in Texas, home to one of the strictest abortion bans, will benefit from the plan. Yelp’s medical insurance for employees already covers abortion care.
Other Companies
Citigroup Inc., Apple Inc. and Levi Strauss & Co. started providing travel benefits for employees traveling for abortion care. Citi became the first major bank to cover this expense.
Salesforce assured that the company would help employees relocate if they feel concerned about the abortion laws introduced in their states
