The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved updated COVID-19 vaccinations for infants aged six months and older by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech. The bivalent vaccine targets the omicron variant.
According to the FDA, the upcoming holiday season calls for preventive measures. Children aged six months to four years can receive Pfizer-BioNTech’s updated vaccine as their third shot upon receiving the previous two doses. Those who received three doses of Pfizer’s monovalent vaccines are currently not eligible.
Children between six months and five years old who got Moderna’s initial vaccines can get their updated boosters after two months of receiving the primary series.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will assess and approve before the vaccine comes into effect.
