President Biden picked Friday his staff secretary Neera Tanden as the new head of the Domestic Policy Council, replacing Susan Rice. She is the first Asian American to serve the role.
She will oversee policies in all areas except national security and the economy. Stefanie Feldman will replace Tanden as the new staff secretary.
Tanden is a senior adviser with over 25 years of public policy experience. She has served in former president Barack Obama and Bill Clinton’s administrations.
“She was a key architect of the Affordable Care Act and helped drive key domestic policies that became part of my agenda, including clean energy subsidies and sensible gun reform,” said Biden in his White House statement.
