Federal employees will be barred from using China-based TikTok on government devices

Amid mounting national security concerns, the Senate unanimously passed a bill late Wednesday that would bar federal employees from downloading or using TikTok on government-issued devices.

The ban comes at a time when the country is concerned over its national security. The bill now moves to the House for approval.

Republican Senator Josh Hawley who co-sponsored the bill said that until TikTok, “is forced to sever ties with China completely, it has no place on government devices.”

Just this Tuesday, Republican Senator Marco Rubio announced a new bipartisan bill called the ANTI-SOCIAL CCP Act, which seeks to ban TikTok entirely in the US.

TikTok is currently undergoing a national security review process with the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US.
