Biden camp is trying to reassure anxious backers after debate debacle

The Democratic Party is in damage control mode. This weekend, President Joe Biden spoke at fundraisers in New York and New Jersey. A few days after his presidential debate, the 81-year-old is trying to reassure supporters and backers that his performance doesn’t mean he is unfit to run.

Several top Democrats, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, say the debate doesn’t imply that his mental fitness is lacking as Biden’s camp tries to push back on calls from within the party for him to step down.
