President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Chris Wright, CEO of Liberty Energy, to lead the Energy Department. Wright, a key figure in the shale revolution, is credited with helping the US become the world’s largest oil producer through fracking.
His appointment signals a focus on fossil fuel production over renewable energy. Wright will also serve on the new Council of National Energy.
Trump praised Wright for helping drive American energy independence and transforming global energy markets. A climate change skeptic, Wright claimed last year that there is no climate crisis on social media. He prioritizes secure, reliable and affordable energy.
Brendan Carr nominated as FCC Chairman
The President-elect has nominated Brendan Carr as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman. Currently the senior Republican on the FCC, Carr previously served as its general counsel.
Carr, whose current term runs through 2029, will replace Jessica Rosenworcel if confirmed.
His leadership has been noted for holding Big Tech accountable and supporting local broadcasters. Trump lauded Carr for his commitment to economic growth, particularly in rural areas, and his efforts to curb Big Tech’s influence, improve national security, and revise Section 230, which shields social media companies from legal liability for user-generated content.
Meanwhile, Trump’s advisers are considering Kevin Warsh, Marc Rowan, and Bill Hagerty for the Treasury Secretary position. While Scott Bessent and Howard Lutnick remain contenders, Lutnick’s aggressive lobbying has hurt his chances.
