President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Wednesday, using the 20-minute speech to highlight his administration’s record in 2025 and outline priorities for the rest of his term.

Trump defended his handling of inflation, tariffs, and border security, while accusing Democrats of pushing the country to the “brink of ruin.” He defended his economic policies, crediting tariffs for encouraging companies to build in the US and predicting an economic boom the likes of which the world has never seen.

The President claimed inflation has stopped, and gas prices have plunged to below $2.50 a gallon. However, recent data shows inflation near 3% and average gas prices around $2.90 a gallon nationwide, according to GasBuddy.

Trump also said he will soon nominate a new Federal Reserve Chair who supports lower interest rates.

Military payments and health care
A major announcement focused on the military. Trump said the government will send $1,776 “warrior dividends” to eligible service members before Christmas. About 1.28 million active-duty troops and 174,000 reservists qualify, at a total cost of roughly $2.6 billion.

The bonus follows other steps to support troops, including a 4% pay raise in the 2026 defense bill and billions for housing, childcare, and military family programs.

On health care, Trump criticized the Affordable Care Act and insurers, saying subsidy funds should “go to the people,” but offered no detailed replacement plan.

The move comes as his approval ratings face pressure over the economy. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment recently reached a four-year high, and concerns remain that tariffs could push prices higher.
