New police records show Nadine Arslanian, Senator Bob Menendez’s then-girlfriend and now-wife, fatally hit a man with her car in 2018, four months before she allegedly received a bribe gift of a Mercedes-Benz convertible.
Arslanian hit and killed 49-year-old Richard Koop in the accident. The police recording shows her saying, “Why was the guy in the middle of the street? I didn't do anything wrong, you know?”
She was not charged and was let go after a police interview. The Koop family received a settlement from Arslanian’s insurance company.
As reported by the New York Times on Wednesday, the car crash did not receive any media attention in 2018 and was found in the bribery indictment documents filed by prosecutors last month against New Jersey Democratic Senator Menendez and his wife.
