Donald Trump announced Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election. The news comes a couple of days after an assassination attempt was made on the former president at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

President Joe Biden has repeatedly condemned the shooting.

Vance directly attributed the shooting to President Joe Biden, claiming his campaign that vilified Trump had played a direct role in the shooting.

Who is JD Vance?
|Born in Ohio, Senator James David Vance, a venture capitalist in Silicon Valley, gained national prominence as the author of Hillbilly Elegy, a best-selling memoir exploring poverty, addiction and social mobility in rural America.

Politically, Vance has undergone a significant transformation. Initially a critic of Donald Trump, who once called him America’s Hitler, Vance later changed his opinion during the 2016 election.

He embraced the former president’s agenda and received his endorsement during his successful 2022 Senate campaign in Ohio.

Now, Vance’s political views align closely with the MAGA movement, emphasizing issues such as economic populism and cultural conservatism.

He advocates nationalist foreign policy views, including skepticism towards US aid to Ukraine and support for tariffs and immigration restrictions.

If elected, Vance, 39, would be one of the youngest vice presidents in history.

His nomination completes the Republican ticket with less than four months until Election Day, strategically bolstering Trump’s appeal in key states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

These states are crucial for Trump’s re-election bid. Currently, he leads in national and swing state polls against Democratic rival Joe Biden.
