A new law passed by Utah, that requires porn sites to verify users are above 18, goes into effect today. Protesting it, well-known MindGeek porn sites including Pornhub have blocked access in the state.
Viewers searching for Pornhub with an IP address in Utah will be diverted to the site page that has an adult performer (SFW) reading a statement saying, “Giving your ID card every time you want to visit an adult platform is not the most effective solution for protecting our users.”
Louisiana implemented a similar law in January, but it has a digital ID program that residents can use to verify their age and access adult sites.

Utah laws for kids
Utah is all set to implement two laws in 2024, limiting kids’ social media use and requiring parental permission:
-
Minors are barred from logging on to social media between 10:30 p.m and 6:30 a.m.
-
Kids require age verification to join social media. It offers the opportunity to sue companies on behalf of children, claiming they were harmed by social media.
Both bills were passed on March 25.
