Shoppers are expected to spend up to $14 billion during the two-day Amazon Prime Day shopping event that began yesterday, up more than 10% from last year, according to projections from Adobe Analytics.
Prime Day accounts for 1%–2% of Amazon’s net global sales, per CFRA Research.
Other retailers such as Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and Costco have followed Amazon by offering competing deals to boost sales as inflation-weary consumers reduce spending.
Meanwhile, a Senate probe found that Prime Day is a major cause of worker injuries. According to the report, its warehouses have been understaffed during Prime Day and the holiday shopping seasons, “endangering workers who have to manage increased volume without increased support.”
