Screenshots of the Department of Homeland Security account on X went viral on Friday as it was showing a location in Tel Aviv, Israel

X’s new transparency tool, which shows an account’s key information like the user’s location and when they joined the platform, has users roiling, with some on the internet calling it forced doxxing.

Several people put up screenshots claiming they had found the original locations of many MAGA profiles that had presented themselves as US-based but appeared to be located in Africa and South Asia.

Screenshots of the Department of Homeland Security account went viral on Friday as it was showing a location in Tel Aviv, Israel. The DHS issued a statement denying that its account had ever been operated from Israel. The feature briefly disappeared from X and was released globally on Saturday.

Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, said the claim about the DHS account’s location was fake news.
