Aerospace company Rocket Lab achieved a historic feat yesterday when it launched two small Electron rockets within 24 hours from two different hemispheres—one from its Virginia site and the other from New Zealand.

Shares of the SpaceX competitor jumped over 11% in pre-market trading on Monday after the announcement of the successful launches and on the news that the company is close to securing $23.9 million from the Department of Commerce under the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022.

The dual blast-offs mark Rocket Lab’s 56th successful space mission since its inception in NZ in 2006. CEO and founder Peter Beck touted the launches as evidence of the company’s dominance in the small launch market.

Rocket Lab is eyeing greater ambitions with its upcoming Neutron rocket, designed to compete with SpaceX’s Falcon 9. The company plans three Neutron launches carrying customer cargo by 2026.
