Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz spectacularly defeated world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in a five-hour, 29-minute marathon, winning the French Open 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(10-2) on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Alcaraz retained his title in the longest French Open final ever. He now holds five Grand Slam titles.

Italian Sinner was on a roll this season and even beat the 24-time grand slam title winner Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. However, Alcaraz’s relentless pursuit in the lengthy game made him win the tie-break in the final set.

Notably, Coco Gauff won her first French Open on Saturday after defeating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.
