The New York Mets have reportedly signed superstar Juan Soto to a historic 15-year, $765 million contract, the largest in baseball history.
The deal, which includes $51 million annually, a $75 million signing bonus, and a five-year opt-out, could surpass $800 million, according to ESPN.
It would surpass Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers, though Ohtani’s $70 million annual value still leads MLB.
At 25, Soto shined in the New York Yankees, posting 41 home runs, a .288 batting average, and a .989 OPS during this season. He turned down a $440 million Washington Nationals offer in 2022, leading to trades to the San Diego Padres and Yankees before his free agency this offseason.
Soto’s move from the Yankees solidifies Mets owner Steve Cohen’s reputation for aggressive spending to transform the franchise.
