23XI Racing, co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and race driver Denny Hamlin, has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Nascar, accusing the organization and its CEO, Jim France, of monopolistic practices.

The lawsuit claims Nascar operates without transparency, controls the sport, and imposes conditions that limit competition, hindering profitability for team owners, sponsors and drivers.

23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports argue that Nascar has created a monopoly by acquiring racetracks, enforcing exclusive use of “Next Gen” cars and imposing non-compete restrictions on teams.

The suit also states that Nascar halted negotiations with the two racing teams in March and pressured them into signing last-minute agreements in September, threatening teams could miss the 2025 season if they did not comply.

Seeking redress
Both racing teams seek a preliminary injunction to allow them to participate next year and are demanding treble damages for the financial losses incurred due to the alleged anticompetitive practices.
