Netflix secured exclusive rights for the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031

Netflix has secured US broadcasting rights for the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031, the streamer announced yesterday, marking a major step in its live sports strategy. The deal is FIFA’s largest with a streaming service.

While details on the deal’s value weren’t disclosed, FIFA president Gianni Infantino emphasized its importance in showcasing the value of women’s soccer.

Netflix, which recently ventured into live sports with a Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match (during which it encountered several glitches), also plans to air NFL games this Christmas.

The shift supports Netflix’s goal to boost advertisement sales via its growing ad-supported service, which now attracts 283 million subscribers worldwide.

Additionally, Netflix will produce exclusive documentaries on top women players in the lead-up to the tournament.
