Ohio State wins first national title in 10 years

Ohio State triumphed in the first expanded College Football Playoff, defeating Notre Dame 34-23 in the national championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The victory marks the Buckeyes’ first title since 2014.

It comes in the inaugural season of the 12-team playoff. Despite a crushing late-season loss to Michigan, the Buckeyes dominated the playoffs, outscoring opponents 145-75.

Ohio State’s defense stepped up with a game-changing scoop and score from Jack Sawyer against Texas.

Quinshon Judkins rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the final. Notre Dame, which led early, couldn’t capitalize on key opportunities and mistakes, including a missed field goal.

Quarterback Will Howard was outstanding, completing 17 of 21 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns, earning offensive MVP honors.
