Scottie Scheffler, the world’s top-ranked golfer, was arrested yesterday on the way to the tournament’s second round at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky.

Scheffler was allegedly charged with assaulting a police officer, reckless driving and ignoring traffic rules following a fatal accident involving a shuttle bus.

What happened?
Scheffler attempted to bypass a roadblock, dragging a police officer in the process. He described the arrest as a “big misunderstanding” during a “chaotic situation” and plans to plead not guilty.

Scheffler was put in a cell after getting booked but was released without bail. He returned to Valhalla before tee time.

He delivered a strong second round, climbing the leaderboard. Astonishingly, he shot a 66, one of the best rounds of the day.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
