Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani became the first Major League Baseball (MLB) player to hit over 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season during the Thursday match against the Miami Marlins.
The Japanese baseball sensation hit his 51st homer in the ninth inning, surpassing the franchise record of 49 homers by Shawn Green in 2001. Ohtani achieved the 50-50 mark in his 150th game.
He also became the first MLB player with three homers and two steals in a game.
The Dodgers won the game 20-4, clinching their 12th straight playoff berth.
In December 2023, Ohtani signed a record-breaking $700 million 10-year contract with the LA Dodgers.
