World No. 1 Jannik Sinner claimed his second Grand Slam singles title by defeating American Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 yesterday in the men’s US Open final.

The victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium marks the 23-year-old’s second major win this year following his Australian Open triumph. Sinner joins Flavia Pennetta as the only two Italians to win singles championships in US Open history.

US falls short again
Currently ranked No. 12, Fritz aimed to end a 21-year drought and become the first American man to win a Grand Slam since Andy Roddick’s 2003 US Open victory.

Despite leading 5-3 in the third set, Fritz lost the final four games, sealing his defeat.

Meanwhile, American Jessica Pegula lost to Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka 7–5, 7–5 on Saturday. Sabalenka’s win comes a year after she lost to Coco Gauff in the 2023 finals of the US Open.
