At Apple’s “Glowtime” launch event yesterday, the tech giant unveiled its iPhone 16 and 16 Pro lineup, along with a new smartwatch, AirPods, and A18 chip. It also showcased Apple Intelligence (its AI platform) and how it will be featured in the latest devices.
The iPhone 16 will allow users to:
-
Generate and edit text.
-
Use Visual Intelligence, Apple’s answer to Google Lens.
-
Search photos, emails and texts via Siri. The voice assistant will also summarize texts and emails.
Additionally, the new iPhones have a “capture button” for enhanced photo control. The Pro models promise the best battery life and can record video in 4K at 120 frames per second.
However, the company’s AI tech will initially launch in beta mode in English next month, with Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish support in 2025.
Despite the AI buzz, Apple’s stock dropped by more than 1% after the event, suggesting investor concerns over AI-centric products’ ability to drive demand.
The tech giant didn’t address how it plans to boost sales or outline a clear strategy to compete with China’s Huawei, which launched the world’s first dual-hinged, triple-screen foldable phone (starting at $2,800) hours after the Apple event.
Investors also worry about the falling demand for iPhones in China, one of Apple’s largest markets.
