Apple is partnering with the BCI company Synchron on its Stentrode neural implant
Apple is diving into the brain-computer interface (BCI) space, collaborating with startup Synchron to pioneer tech that lets users control Apple devices using neural signals, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Synchron’s Stentrode implant, a device placed in a vein near the brain, decodes neural activity to navigate screens.
Currently in early testing, the tech aims to improve accessibility for people with conditions like ALS or severe spinal injuries by letting them interact with iPhones, iPads, and Vision Pro headsets using thought alone.
The FDA hasn’t approved the device yet, but industry analysts expect it by 2030.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s Neuralink has shown faster, more precise control using its N1 implant, which captures more data by placing electrodes inside the brain.
