Every gamer’s favorite messaging platform, Discord, is reportedly preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) and has met with investment bankers to discuss the process.

The chat app, valued at $15 billion in 2021, is popular among gamers and has over 200 million monthly users, with 93% using it for gaming. While talks remain exploratory, a potential IPO could boost the struggling public listing market.

Founded in 2015 by Jason Citron and Stanislav Vishnevskiy, Discord allows users to communicate via text, voice and video. It generates revenue through a “freemium” model, offering premium features via subscription instead of traditional ads.

Beyond gaming, Discord attracts influencers, musicians, and creators. In 2023, it launched an online shop where users can buy profile upgrades and custom graphics.
