Apple has reportedly given an internal nickname V68 for the clamshell-like foldable iPhone
Apple is developing its first foldable iPhone and has contacted its suppliers in Asia, according to the Information. The clamshell-like foldable model, given an internal nickname V68, is expected to hit the market in 2026.
Foldable smartphones aren’t new. Samsung introduced one in 2019. However, Apple is reportedly trying to solve some issues, like reducing the crease you see when the phone is unfolded and making the phone thinner.
Apple’s move is notable
The market for foldable smartphones grew by 49% in the first quarter of this year compared to last year, with Huawei taking the lead over Samsung for the first time.
A foldable iPhone could help Apple compete better with companies like Honor and Huawei in China and Samsung worldwide.
Besides foldable phones, Apple might add a depth-of-field camera feature to next year’s iPhone. Rumors also abound about a foldable MacBook and much thinner phones that could launch in 2026.
