Through 100 Zero, Google is focusing on brand appeal|Gregory Varnum|CC BY-SA 4.0
Google is quietly venturing into Hollywood. The tech giant has teamed up with talent firm Range Media Partners to launch 100 Zeros, an initiative that produces or funds movies and TV shows, reports Business Insider.
Range Media is tasked with identifying projects for Google, and the 100 Zeros unit has already marketed the indie body-horror film Cuckoo in 2024. Two more movies from the venture are set to release this year.
However, 100 Zeros isn’t just about making movies. Google is focusing on brand appeal. It is backing projects that highlight AI, immersive tech, and even subtle Android product placements.
It hopes to shape pop culture and win over younger audiences, especially Gen Z, where Apple currently dominates. A recent Piper Sandler survey found 88% of US teens owned an iPhone.
Surprisingly, Google is not pushing its films on YouTube, which its parent company Alphabet owns. Instead, they want their projects to land on streaming platforms like Netflix.
