Meta Platforms Inc. launched a new artificial intelligence model, Muse Spark, marking its first major release since CEO Mark Zuckerberg began a multibillion-dollar overhaul of the company’s AI strategy.

The model, built by Meta Superintelligence Labs under Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, will power the Meta AI chatbot.

The company’s shares rose 6% after the announcement, signaling investor confidence.

Unlike earlier open-source efforts, Muse Spark is a closed model, reflecting a strategic shift as Meta competes with rivals.

Internal tests indicate the company outperforms xAI’s Grok broadly, surpasses Gemini in some areas, and matches OpenAI and Anthropic.

The model was developed in nine months and supports features such as instant and deep reasoning modes. While still evolving, Meta plans larger models ahead.

The chatbot remains free for now, though subscription options may follow.

With the global generative AI market projected to grow by more than 40% annually, Meta is betting big, with up to $135 billion in AI spending planned for 2026.
