With gasoline prices lowering, 87% of travelers could take road trips

A record-breaking 45.1 million people are expected to travel within the US for Memorial Day weekend between May 22 and 26, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).

As gasoline prices decline, 87% of travelers could take road trips, while 8% are flying and 5% are hopping on buses, trains, or cruise ships.

The national average of gas prices has fallen to $3.14 per gallon from $3.59 in 2024. It’s dropped to $2.72 per gallon in Texas from $3.19.

Based on travel bookings reviewed by the AAA, Orlando tops the domestic destination list. Rome takes the crown internationally, boosted by excitement over the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, the first American pontiff.
