Surging international travel demand is causing record applications and long wait times for the Global Entry program, which offers “expedited processing” for travelers returning from abroad.
With COVID-19 restrictions largely lifted, another summer of revenge travel is underway. Projection says there will be a 55% surge in trips from the U.S. to Europe this summer.
Americans are signing up for the Trusted Traveler Program in unprecedented numbers.
Application process
Eligible travelers can apply through the Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account, complete the application, pay the fee, and schedule an interview.
Cost and benefits
The program costs $100 for five years and members can skip lines at certain airports and enjoy TSA PreCheck for domestic flights.
The numbers
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) expects over 3.2 million Global Entry applications in the fiscal year ending September 30, surpassing the previous record of 2.95 million in 2022.
As the summer travel surge continues, travelers are advised to plan well in advance and explore other options if Global Entry appointments are not available.
The surge in travel has also led to a backlog of passport applications.
