Despite the terrible weather, 3.5 million Americans flew somewhere for the Memorial Day holiday weekend

Severe weather disrupted millions of Americans’ travel plans across the Midwest and East Coast on Monday, causing delays ranging from one to three hours at LaGuardia, Kennedy and Newark airports.

Storms and tornadoes killed at least 23 people and left hundreds of thousands without power. It also led to significant delays at airports from Atlanta to Boston.

Despite the terrible weather, 3.5 million people flew to some place for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, according to the AAA, up 5% from 2023 and over 9% since 2019.
