A violent thunderstorm complex hit downtown Houston and the surrounding areas on Thursday evening, resulting in at least four fatalities.
The storm caused significant damage, including power outages that affected over 870,000 customers in the county and nearly 1 million statewide.
Winds reached up to 100 mph, blowing out skyscraper windows and tearing parts of hotel roofs. It blocked roadways with live wires and debris, causing most schools to be closed on Friday.
The storm also prompted numerous flash flood warnings and a tornado watch for Houston and southeast Louisiana.
The National Weather Service expects the climate situation to continue, with risks of flooding and more storms from Corpus Christi to the Florida Panhandle on Friday.
