A powerful storm, initially slamming Florida with torrential rains and formidable winds, continues its destructive path up the Atlantic coast, causing floods, power outages and travel chaos.

Excessive downpours will linger until Monday in the Mid-Atlantic and extend to Tuesday for New England.

South Carolina’s coast experienced severe flooding with 6 to 8 inches of rain, while tornado damage was reported in the Socastee and Forestbrook areas. Charleston Harbor witnessed tides reaching 9.86 feet, the fourth highest on record.

More than 25,000 customers were without power across North Carolina and Virginia yesterday night, according to PowerOutage.us.

The storm’s disruptions repeatedly postponed SpaceX’s Dragon undocking from the International Space Station. It’s now scheduled for Tuesday evening.

Over 5,200 flights were delayed, and 115 were canceled on Sunday.

The National Weather Service is monitoring the storm’s trajectory and intensity while cautioning about river flooding that can affect more than 60 million people.
