Perplexity’s users can make purchases without leaving the platform|@perplexity_ai|X
AI search engine Perplexity is entering the e-commerce game with a new shopping feature for US-based Pro users. This tool integrates product recommendations directly into search results, allowing users to make purchases without leaving the platform.
Visual product cards showcase details like price, seller info, pros/cons, and reviews. Users can store payment info for one-click checkout, with free shipping for Pro subscribers.
They can also use features like “Snap to Shop,” a tool that analyzes product photos for more information, similar to Google Lens. For items not eligible for in-app purchases, users are redirected to the merchant’s site.
Perplexity’s search integrates with platforms like Shopify to surface unbiased recommendations. It has a new program for merchants, offering insights into shopping trends and increased visibility for their products. The startup aims to streamline AI-driven commerce without direct monetization, for now.
The move highlights the broader AI-driven shift in e-commerce search. Competitors like Google and Amazon are enhancing shopping experiences with their own AI tools too.
Amazon launched its AI-powered assistant Rufus this year and said it helped “millions” of customers during Prime Day sales. Google also incorporated AI to its shopping tab.
