Target is equipping its store workers with a new artificial intelligence tool called “Store Companion” to boost employee efficiency and enhance the shopping experience.

The Minneapolis-based retailer aims to tackle rising labor costs and sluggish sales by deploying its AI chatbot as a smartphone app across nearly 2,000 stores by August.

The tool is designed to help with tasks like fixing cash registers or enrolling customers in loyalty programs.

The in-house-developed app runs on handheld devices provided to employees and is currently being tested in 400 stores.

Joining the trend
Target joins other major retailers like Amazon and Walmart in leveraging AI to streamline operations and personalize customer interactions, signaling a strategic shift towards advanced technology integration in retail.
