The country’s first intercity private passenger train service in a century starts today. Florida’s Brightline will run high-speed rails that zoom past at 125 mph, linking Miami and Orlando. The trip will take 3.5 hours.

What to know?
The train ride will take 30 minutes less than a car drive and is eco-friendly since the high-speed trains run on biodiesel. Tickets are $158 (business class) and $298 (first class) per person for a round trip.

Brightline will run 32 trains daily, covering the 235-mile distance between Florida’s top tourist hubs. It believes that 8 million people will take the Miami-Orlando trains annually.

Test about future opportunities
The rail company has invested $5 billion in the venture. CEO Mike Reininger believes it to be an important moment to see if private rail lines can prosper in the U.S.

So far, federal-owned Amtrak has long dominated American railroads.

Brightline plans to open another line connecting Southern California and Las Vegas in 2027.
