Defense startup Anduril Industries has raised $1.5 billion in its recent funding round, pushing its valuation to $14 billion and positioning it as a rising contender in the US defense industry.
Founded by Palmer Luckey—the creator of the Oculus VR headset used in gaming—Anduril has already beaten established giants like Lockheed Martin and Boeing in securing defense contracts for developing unmanned fighter jets.
Investors are betting big on Anduril due to its ability to ink major deals, including one with the US Air Force, just seven years after its inception.
The newly raised funds will support the construction of Arsenal-1, a massive factory designed to produce autonomous weapons on a large scale, said Anduril. This strategy contracts with traditional defense companies that typically focus on fewer, more expensive systems.
Anduril is growing rapidly, doubling its revenue to around $500 million last year. It has raised over $3.7 billion since its launch in 2017.
