The funds will help to reduce pollution and carbon emissions and boost renewable energy
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced 25 projects across 30 states that will receive $4.3 billion in funds to help reduce pollution and carbon emissions and boost renewable energy.
The projects were chosen from almost 300 applications from states, tribes and local governments. Funds for them come from the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, President Joe Biden’s signature climate legislation.
A significant chunk of the funding will go to building EV chargers, replacing residential oil heating systems with heat pumps, reducing agricultural wastes and emissions, and expanding clean energy such as wind and solar power.
-
Pennsylvania will get $396 million to reduce industrial pollution and generate about 6,000 jobs.
-
Nebraska will receive $307 million to decrease agricultural waste and enhance energy efficiency in homes and buildings.
-
The grants also include $500 million for the air management district in Southern California to help decarbonize the region’s transportation and freight sectors, including ports in Long Beach and Los Angeles.
According to the EPA, the grants could help reduce emissions by 971 million metric tons (roughly the emissions of five million homes over 25 years) by 2050.
