This year, two broods of cicadas—17-year and 13-year—are parallelly emerging for the first time since 1803, and a Chicago brewpub is making Marlot shots out of them to savor the once-in-a-lifetime event.

The buzz is around the Noon Whistle Brewing in Lombard, which is offering $5 shots of Malort infused with the essence of cicadas.

Eating insects isn’t new, but cuisines containing these cicadas intrigue culinary experts. They taste like lobsters and offer an eco-friendly feeding option.

These bugs spend 17 years living underground before they emerge on land, where they live only up to 4 to 6 weeks, during which time they mate, lay eggs and die.

Just a reminder: if you have shellfish allergies, steer clear of this rare treat due to potential reactions.
