DoorDash is making major moves to become a global delivery powerhouse. In just a day, it announced two big deals.
America’s biggest food-delivery service is acquiring UK-based Deliveroo for $3.9 billion and is shelling out another $1.2 billion to expand into hospitality by purchasing restaurant tech platform SevenRooms.
The app is taking a $2.85 billion loan from JPMorgan to facilitate the deals.
The Deliveroo acquisition would expand DoorDash’s reach to over 40 countries and 50 million active monthly users. The companies’ combined gross order value was around $90 billion in 2024.
Acquiring SevenRooms adds tools like reservations and customer management to DoorDash’s offerings. The company’s tools are used by 13,000+ restaurant groups, including Marriott, MGM and Wolfgang Puck.
DoorDash also reported $3 billion in Q1 revenue and $193 million in profit, a sharp turnaround from the $23 million loss the same time last year.
Overall, consolidations in the food industry are heating up. Uber announced yesterday that it is acquiring an 85% controlling stake in the Turkish delivery app Trendyol Go. Grubhub was purchased by billionaire Marc Lore’s Wonder Group Inc. this year.
